I'm new to the hobbies, few months. I'm making all grain corn/barley mash, after 4 days it stops bubbling and gets a white film on it,still distilled good just real low yield,5 gallons of wash I get maybe 1 or 1.5 quarts of drinkable spirits, starts at around 150 sometimes and I run it down to 90 . What am I doing wrong,I have no way to check abv,I'm using distillers yeast, malted barley and cracked corn in a stainless steel pot still from China. Would letting it sit longer(even with no activity) help any

It stopped bubbling after 4 days because the containing sugar has been degraded completely. This is also the reason of the low yield. The simplest way to keep on with the fermentation would be adding sugar. Professionals would try to achieve a higher conversion rate starch to sugar.

The white film is in fact a mixture of mold, vinegar bacteria and wild yeast. This film diminishes the alcohol content and forms foreshots, or rather heads. Therefore the taste of your distillate should be quite pungent, even if you've separated the foreshots properly.
