need help making still for distilling essential oils

yayaBalinci am 16.03.2020 12:45:54 | Region: thompson river watershed, bc, canada

Hello and happy to be a part of such a great part of health and life.

I am making a still to distill essential oils from our herb farm.

I have attached a photo of what i believe to be a shotgun condenser?

My elder neighbour gave it to me in hopes of fulfilling a dream of his and his wife's.

I need to still make or purchase the still and the receiver of the distillate if i am understanding this correctly.

Thank you for your time and insight.

Michael

Hello Michael,

it seems your questions belong to the forum "specialist questions" or the discussion, here you're in the recipes...

Anyway, here's my answer:

Yes, of course, this type of condenser is also able to cool down and condensate the steam, but especially if producing essential oils, you should be able to clean the inner (!) parts completely in an easy and effective way. I don't know if this is possible with this one, at least I haven't found an evidence you can.
By the way: You will find lots of in-depth descriptions on this topic in our book "The Essential Oil Maker’s Handbook – A Practical Guide", especially which type of condenser works best, or rather how a proper condenser should be constructed. In other words: We describe this topic in the printed book very thoroughly.
